RELATIVE TO COMMENDING MARK BRANDLIN FOR HIS CONTRIBUTIONS TO HONOR THE MEMORIES OF THE DEDICATED MARINES

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMITTEE ON RULES AND HEALTH OF I MINA’BENTE SIETE NA LIHESLATURAN GUÅHAN:

WHEREAS, Mark Brandlin moved to Guam in July of 1995 and has been a resident of Agat since that time, and
WHEREAS, Mark Brandlin is the proprietor of the popular restaurant, JanZ’s By the Sea, and
WHEREAS, Mark Brandlin served in the United States Marine Corps from 1969-1972; and
WHEREAS, during his service in the Marine Corps, Mark was stationed in the Indo China area working out of the ocean border of Thailand where he was a Private First Class rifleman; and
WHEREAS, Mark’s father, William Brandlin, was a First Lieutenant who served during the WWII invasions of Saipan and Okinawa;
WHEREAS, Mark is exemplifies the old saying “Once a Marine always a Marine;” and
WHEREAS, because of his dedication to and love for the Corps, Mark took notice of the monument on; Marine Drive in Agat which is inscribed: “Command post of Brig. Gen. Shepherd USMC Provisional Marine Brigade July 1944 During Liberation of Guam”; and
WHEREAS, Mark took the initiative to refurbish the General Shepherd monument and rededicate the new monument to honor General Shepherd and the Marine Corps’ contribution to liberating Guam. and
WHEREAS, Every year before Liberation day, Mark contributes his time and resources in restoring the General Shepherd monument to honor the dedicated Marines who liberated Guam, now therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the Committee on Rules of I Mina’ Bente Siete Na Liheslaturan Guåhan does hereby, on behalf of I Liheslaturan Guåhan and the people of Guam, does hereby commend Mark Brandlin for his contributions to the memory of the dedicated Marines who liberated Guam
RESOLVED, that the Speaker and the Chairwoman of the Committee on Rules certify, and the Legislative Secretary attest to, the adoption hereof and that copies of the same be thereafter transmitted to Mark Brandlin; Ignacio “Buck” Cruz, the Commandant of the Marine Corps; and to the Honorable Felix P. Camacho, I Maga’lahen Guåhan.
