Senator Bob Klitzkie (R) has introduced a bill assuring firefighters will be compensated properly for holiday shifts. "Firefighters work 24-hour shifts, sections B and C of the bill address the 24-hour shift and provides that firefighters are paid double-pay for the first nine hours of a holiday shift but when a firefighters signs leave he's only charged with nine hours for a shift," the second-term policymaker told KUAM News.

He adds that the section of law dealing with holiday shift pay were inadvertently repealed in the Fiscal Year 2006 budget. This bill restores those sections of law effective October 1.
