Bill 368 goes up for public hearing tomorrow at the Guam Legislature
in Hagatna. The measure as introduced by Senator Bob Klitzkie (R) would
conform the local wage and hour law to mirror those laws utilized by the
federal government. According to the senator the Federal Fair Labor Standards
Act identifies particular employees as exempt from receiving overtime.
"An exempt employee is an executive employee, an administrative employee
or an outside salesmen or a professional employee - those are exempt employees
they don't receive time-and-a-half for work over forty hours in a seven-day
period," Klitzkie explained.
The senator says that if his bill is passed into law it will better define
what kind of employees on Guam should be exempt from receiving overtime
pay.
