Gerber pulls cart down Marine Drive
K57 News Report

Senators will head into session this week where they will take up discussion
on a number of measures, a couple of those deal with Compact-Impact Fund
and bond issues that will hopefully result in money for capital improvement
projects. The Rules Committee finalized an agenda last week placing some
20 bills on the line-up. Session is set for Wednesday. But one bill that
is not on the agenda is Bill 214 which seeks to rename Marine Drive to
Marine Corps Drive in honor of the U.S. Marines who played a big part
in the liberation of Guam from the Japanese. Senators have not said why
the bill was not placed on the agenda, but one citizen is taking the matter
into his own hands. Retired Marine Johnny Gerber is on Marine Drive this
morning pulling a cart in an effort to convince lawmakers to finally consider
the bill. Gerber says he will walk the entire highway from Andersen to
Naval Station in Santa Rita. According to the bill, if it is passed into
law, the rededication will take place on July 21, 2004, the 60th anniversary
of the liberation of Guam.
